The New England Water Garden & Ornamental Fish Show’s Q: Why are you holding the show in June? All the other home and garden shows are in the early spring. A: We hold the show in the middle of June because that is the beginning of what we call the peak of the water gardening experience. It is when our Koi and Goldfish have fully awakened from their winter slumber and start to break the water’s surface in their search for food. It is when our aquatic plants such as Lotus and water lilies start to show off their blooms. It is when we will most likely be in the thick of our backyard projects. Like installing or enlarging a pond or adding plants or fish to it. It is also when we find ourselves most needing new items or good advice. That is why we chose the middle of June. Please, do not confuse this show with other home & garden shows. This event has been carefully planned all year by volunteers whose sole intent is to better the hobby. Most of the folks that come to the show, participate in the show. Along with our seminars and wet lab we have several competitions open to the public. All of our vendors are not only there to offer you a wide variety of products and services but, to take the time to answer your questions and teach you alternative ways of solving problems. Q: The show is Saturday and Sunday. Which day would the best to attend? A: That is a tough one because each day has so much to offer. On Saturday morning you always have that “start of the show” energy but, on Sunday afternoon, there’s that “end of the show” buzz. If you can only attend one day, the best thing to do is look at the ‘Show Schedule’ page on our show website and see what events you would least want to miss out on. Q: Should we bring anything to the show? A: Definitely bring a camera! There will be a number of beautiful water garden displays and thousands of exotic Japanese Carp (Koi) along with unusual breeds of Goldfish. If you plan on purchasing fish bring a cooler or a box to put your bagged fish into for the ride home. The only other thing you should consider bringing is your lucky charm! There will be lots of raffles and free giveaways throughout the weekend. Q: What if it rains that weekend? Will the show still go on? A: The whole event will be held in the beautiful Mallary Arena at the Eastern States Fairgrounds so you will have a wonderful time regardless of the weather. Q: What will the seminars and wet lab cost? A: All of the seminars and demos are free with your admission. There is a small $10 charge for the wet lab to help cover the cost of supplies. Also, pre-registration is required for the wet lab. You can register by calling Roc Goudreau at (413) 967-6805. Q: Can I bring my children? A: This is a family show! Children under twelve are admitted free and they love the show! In fact there are categories in the Goldfish and Water Garden Container competitions specifically for children. Q: I have been in the hobby for a number of years. Will I learn anything new? A: This show and seminars will offer plenty for everybody from the curious beginner to the seasoned expert. It is your opportunity to meet and learn from other hobbyist, and professionals that gather here from all parts of the Country. The finest pond builders and landscapers in the area will be at your service. Q: How much will it end up costing me? A: There is a $5 parking fee, and a $5 admission for anyone over twelve. The rest is up to you. Q: How can I get involved? A: The Show is put on by the Pioneer Valley Water Garden & Koi Club (PVWG&KC). A nonprofit organization whose membership is made up of water gardeners and fish enthusiast. We have just over one hundred members and we always welcome more. If you are interested in joining please, visit our club table at the show or download a membership application from our club’s website www.pioneervalleypondclub.com. If you are not interested joining but, would just like to help with the show…we would love to have you! You can become part of the team by emailing Sandy Litwin at slitwin13@netzero.net. Q: Do I have to be present at the show to win a raffle? A: Yes. Winners are announced every hour. You do not have to be there to win our larger show giveaways. You will give us your contact information on the ticket. Q: If I come Saturday, does this get me back in on Sunday? Do you have whole weekend admission tickets? A: You will have to pay each day. That is why we decided to keep the cost of admission so low. Q: If I buy something on Saturday, can I pick it up on Sunday without having to pay another admission? A: Yes. Just make arrangement with vendor. They will inform the front ticket takers. |
